All You Need to Know About Replacing Your Timing Belt
For your Toyota Corolla, the replacement interval for the timing belt is around 60,000 to 100,000 miles depending on the year and model. But how can you tell if it’s time for a new one? Here are some warning signs.
Symptoms of a Failing Timing Belt in Your Toyota Corolla
Engine Misfires or Rough Idling
When the timing belt slips or becomes misaligned, it throws off your engine’s timing, causing it to misfire or idle unevenly.
Ticking or Clicking Noises from the Engine
A worn belt can produce ticking sounds as it rotates around the pulleys.
Oil Leaks Near the Front of the Engine
Failing timing belts may lead to oil leaks from the timing cover area, which can worsen belt wear.
Check Engine Light Comes On
A malfunctioning timing belt can trigger sensors that cause the check engine light to illuminate.
Trouble Starting the Engine
If the belt is broken or severely worn, your engine may not start at all, or it may crank without firing up.
Other Engine Parts to Check
When replacing your timing belt, you should also inspect the condition of the spark plugs. These parts are essential for proper engine combustion and ensure your Corolla continues to run smoothly.
